A color of peace, love and purity, white has held a central place in the history of art for centuries. From Bertrand Lavier and Charles Ray to Marina Abramovic and David Hammons, a number of contemporary artists have seized upon this color in their striking works, brought together here in a portfolio.

White is also at the heart of the work of American artist Robert Ryman, whose major retrospective at the Musée de l'Orangerie opens in March. An opportunity to look back at his remarkable work.
